Hathaway captures two gold, two silver at CNU Winter Frolic track meet

New Kent’s Julia Hathaway emerged as a double-event winner at the Christopher Newport University Winter Frolic Indoor Track & Field meet held Dec. 10-11 in Newport News.

Hathaway claimed titles in the girls’ triple jump with a leap of 34’6½ and captured the girls’ 300-meter dash with a time of 42.56. She also finished as a runner-up in the girls’ long jump (15’8”) and the 55-meter dash (7.47).

Along with Hathaway, Lady Trojan teammates Ara Buchman and Makenzie Loveland finished in second and third place, respectively, in the girls’ triple jump with marks of 31’4¼” and 29’7¾.” Amy Rudolph earned a second-place finish in the girls’ pole vault with a clearance of 8’6”.

In the boys’ competition, Ellis Branch captured the triple jump gold and long jump silver for the Trojans.
Branch emerged on top with a leap of 42’0” to win the triple jump. Branch was able to accumulate a mark of 19’5½” to earn a silver medal in the long jump. He teamed with Aaron Sweeney, Brandon Heffinger, and Andrew Wallace to win the boys’ 4×200 meter relay in a time of 1:38.18.

Charles City’s Justin Post-Parada (34’5½”) and Walter Dickerson (30’6¼”) finished the triple jump event in fourth and fifth, respectively, to highlight the Panthers’ successes at the meet.
