Charles City’s Coney captures state berth with leap at Group 1A/2A Region A Championships

Charles City’s Nevaeh Coney locked up an appearance in the Group 1A/2A State Indoor Track and Field Championships with her performance at the Group 1A/2A Regional Championship meet on Feb. 16 at Boo Williams Indoor Complex in Hampton.
Coney leaped a distance of 28’11” in the girls’ triple jump, claiming third in the event and clinching one of the automatic spots for the state meet. Along with teammate Janiya Washington, Charles City’s Lady Panthers earned 25 points to finish ninth at the meet.
Coney earned additional points with a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter dash (48.70), an eighth-place finish in the 500-meter dash (1:33.99), and sixth in the girls’ long jump (13’2¾”). Washington contributed with a fifth-place finishes in the 55-meter dash (8.13) and girls’ triple jump (27’5”), and a sixth-place finish in the 300-meter dash (48.86).
On the boys’ side, Charles City’s Panthers accumulated all of their points in the boys’ triple jump competition, notching six points to finish in eleventh at the meet.
Justin Post-Parada was the high placer for Charles City, placing fifth in the boys’ triple jump with a leap of 35’9¾”. Teammate Walter Dickerson notched the other points by finishing seventh in the event with a distance of 32’7¾”.
Bruton’s girls and boys’ teams won the Group 1A/2A regional meet, respectively.
