Coney, Washington earn pair of second place finishes in Charles City’s home opening track meet

Charles City juniors Janiya Washington and Nevaeh Coney each racked up a pair of runner-up spots during the Mar. 17 home track and field meet for the Panthers.

Washington finished as runner-up in the girls’ 100-meter and 200-meter dash, posting times of 14.21 and 29.62, respectively. Coney earned a pair of silver medals in the girls’ 400-meter dash (1:10.42) and girls’ long jump (13’10”).

The Lady Panthers accumulated 42 points, finishing fourth in the eight-team meet. King William won the girls’ division with 109 points.

On the boys’ side, Ashton English launched the shot 35’6”, taking silver in the event. Teammate Walter Dickerson was close behind, finishing third with a throw of 34’2”.

The duo accounted for all 18 points for the Panthers who finished sixth at the meet. King William captured the boys’ competition with 153.3 points.
