Sometimes it just takes one little spark to get things going. In an Apr. 27 matchup against the Bruton Panthers, New Kent’s Trojans found its way back in the win column with a massive outpouring of run support.

New Kent pushed across 10 of the game’s final 12 runs as they secured a 10-4 victory over Bruton.

The Panthers opened the game, connecting off the pitching of the Trojans for the game’s first two runs. But from there, it was New Kent’s offense that took firm control of the game. Seven runs in the bottom of the opening frame opened up a massive lead for the host.

After Bruton closed the gap within three (7-4) with two more runs in the top of the fourth, Gavin Wetherington crossed home plate after Nick Wiles’ single to double up the score. Two more runs by the host along with pitcher Carson Seely fanning the final batters sealed the win for the Trojans.

After the game, New Kent Head Coach Trevor Ronan was optimistic about his team’s play on the field.

“I just feel like we did not play up to our expectations today,” he commented, mentioning the flat start. “We bounced back and made things happen. We put the ball into play and that is all I can ask for.”

New Kent improves to 12-1 on the season.
