New Kent Lady Trojans finish second, boys third at Group 3A Region A track championships

New Kent High School’s Lady Trojans’ track and field team finished as runners-up of the Group 3A Region A championships held May 20-21 at Churchland High School.

Kori Massey emerged as the lone event winner for the Lady Trojans in the championship meet. The senior cleared a height of 4’10” to win the girls’ high jump competition.

The Lady Trojans accumulated 113.16 points for the second-place trophy, finishing behind Bay Rivers District rival Tabb who won the meet with 142 points. Another district rival, Lafayette, place third with 76 points.

On the boys’ side, New Kent put together a 72-point performance en route to capturing third place at the regional meet.

Ellis Branch emerged as a double-event winner for the Trojans. He captured first place in the boys’ high jump with a clearance of 5’10”and leaped a distance of 42’7½” to win the triple jump competition.

Bay Rivers District rivals Lafayette and Tabb took the top two spots at the meet with 160 and 104 points, respectively.
