Charles City places seventh in region, sends three athletes to state competition

Charles City’s Lady Panthers track and field team accumulated 32 points to finish seventh at the Group 1A Region A Track and Field Championships held on May 26 at their home track.

Nevaeh Coney was the top award getter for Charles City, placing second in the girls’ triple jump (32’3”), fourth in the girls’ long jump (14’6”), and fourth in the girls’ 400-meter dash (1:08.66). Teammate Janiya Washington finished third in the girls’ 400-meter dash (1:08.16), while Surayyah Tinsley placed fourth in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles (57.75).

All three Lady Panthers will be participating in the Group 1A State Championships to be held on June 3-4 at James Madison University. Lancaster’s girls’ and boys’ track and field teams won the meets, respectively.
