Washington qualifies for state meet, accounts for all 13 points for Charles City at regional championships

Charles City’s Janiya Washington ran a personal best of 45.65 in the girls’ 300-meter dash at the Group 1A/2A Region A Championship meet on Feb. 15 and automatically qualify for the state championship meet.
Washington’s effort in the 300-meter dash earned her a fifth-place finish, but her time was below the standard of 45.82, automatically giving her a berth in the Group 1A State Track & Field Championships scheduled for Mar. 1-2.
In additional to her 300-meter dash, Washington placed fifth in the girls’ 55-meter dash with a time of 7.82 and fourth in the girls’ 500-mter dash with a time of 1:29.87. Washington was responsible for all 13 points for the Lady Panthers, as Charles City finished in a three-way tie for ninth in the event.
On the boys’ side, Justin Post-Parada was the only scorer for the Panthers. Post-Parada leaped a distance of 37’8½” in the boys’ triple jump, placing seventh in the event and placing Charles City 13th overall in the boys’ division.
Both Bruton’s girls and boys’ team captured the Region 1A/2A championships.
