Overcoming early errors and mishaps during a Mar. 22 contest against the York Falcons, New Kent’s Trojans focused on finding a way to battle back after an early deficit. Mission accomplished.

Despite falling behind in a 2-0 hole, New Kent emerged with a 3-2 win in the Bay Rivers District contest.

York jumped out immediately in the first inning, thanks to New Kent’s errors. Throwing errors led to two Falcon baserunners making their way across the plate to jump out to 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Brayden Heath reached based on a triple. He later crossed the plate to cut York’s lead to one (2-1). That lead disappeared in the bottom of the next frame as New Kent pushed another run across the plate. Moments later, Tyler Warren’s base-knock drove home Carson Seely, providing the hosts their first lead of the contest.

Meanwhile, Seely kept his composure on the mound for the first six innings. From there, reliever Lane Boyette would come in at the top of the seventh to secure the final out by striking out a York player.

New Kent Head Coach Trevor Ronan spoke about emerging victorious in the comeback.

“We did the little things and made things happen,” he said. “Carson [Seely] gave me six strong innings and my freshman Lane [Boyette] closed things out. Overall, the players did a great job today.”

New Kent remains undefeated at 3-0 on the year.
