Charles City boys, girls place fifth in home opening meet

Rickie Wooten Jr. and Ashton English emerged as individual event winners as Charles City’s boys’ track and field team finished in fifth at their Mar. 23 home opening contest.
Wooten claimed the top spot in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles with a time of 20.45, while English took home first in the boys’ shot with a heave of 38’1½.”
Charles City’s boys scored 38 points in the contest. King William’s boys’ emerged as the winners with 196.
On the girls’ side, Janiya Washington was the lone event winner for the Lady Panthers track and field team.
Washington captured the triple jump competition, leaping 29’0” to win the event.
Charles City’s girls’ scored 42 points, also finishing in fifth place at the meet. King William’s Lady Cavaliers team won the competition with 111 points.
