Behind Alexander’s perfect game, New Kent dismantles Lafayette 13-0

After taking a loss on the road at Smithfield, New Kent’s Lady Trojans looked to correct their errors. And thanks to pitcher Alline Alexander, there weren’t any.

Alexander tossed a perfect game, notching 10 strikeouts, as New Kent’s Lady Trojans emerged to a 13-0 victory over the visiting Lafayette Lady Rams Monday afternoon.

After pushing a run across in the second inning, New Kent began making more noise in the bottom of the fourth. Home runs by Hannah Tober and Libby Britt sparked the first round of offense. Coupled with an triple by Hannah Perkins, the hosts rallied off double digit runs in the inning, more than enough to close out the contest.

After the contest, New Kent Lady Trojans Head Coach Maria Bates spoke about her team’s recovery from the setback on the road.

“We needed to respond to that loss,” she said. “It was a different game, and we were crisp on defense.

“Alline threw a perfect game and today, we were there mentally while playing a cleaner game,” Bates added. “After that first home run, we broke it open.”

New Kent improves to 4-1 on the season.
