Drake’s hat trick elevates Lady Trojans, snaps three-game losing skid

In their last three matches, New Kent’s Lady Trojans have failed to find the back of the net on the pitch. They didn’t have that problem Monday night.
In a rematch against the visiting Colonial Heights Lady Colonials, New Kent punched in eight first half goals en route to a 10-0 mercy rule victory in the non-district contest.
The hosts started the scoring early as Kaitlyn Drake scored four minutes into the contest. Two minutes later, Michelle Drake scored to up the advantage to 2-0. Kaitlyn Drake scored once again three minutes later, with teammate Morgan Schalasny scoring on a free kick to provide New Kent a 4-0 lead at the halfway point of the opening half.
Kaitlyn Drake completed the hat trick with her third goal with 19:35 remaining. Michelle Drake notched her second score of the night, while McKenna Williams and Meghan Fly pushed the final two goals in of the first half to provide the Lady Trojans a comfortable lead at the intermission break. Two additional goals by New Kent resulted in the game ending via mercy rule.
After the contest, New Kent Lady Trojans Head Coach Steven Grech spoke about his team’s efforts.
“The last few week shave been tough,” he said, mentioning going scoreless in the three losses. “Tonight, the girls did well, as well as our subs.
“You can never take a team lightly,” Grech continued. “I am so proud of this group as we go into our home game Wednesday against Hopewell.”
New Kent’s record improves to an even 5-5 on the season.
