Charles City’s bats found it difficult to get going during a Monday afternoon baseball game against the visiting Surry County Cougars.

Limited to just a few hits, Charles City’s Panthers struck out 10 times as Surry cruised to a 12-0 victory in the non-district affair.

Surry started with a pair of runs in the first inning behind Tanner Moran and Tucker Ross crossing home plate on errant Panther throws. More miscues in the second inning allowed three more runs to register for the visitors.

Charles City’s John Loving’s hit in the bottom of the fourth broke up the no-hitter. But by that time, the hosts had trailed 12-0 and couldn’t muster any offense, thus leading to their downfall.

After the contest, Charles City Head Coach Michael Logan spoke about the mistakes his team made in the contest.

“We didn’t show up,” he commented. “We had an entire weekend to think about what we needed to do and we played a team that wanted it more.

“When you make errors, thing snowball,” Logan continued. “Bottom line is that we have to change the culture. Things like this has happened in the past and it’s like ‘here we go again’ type of feel.”

Charles City’s record falls to 1-9 on the season.
