A physical contest with the visiting Hopewell Lady Blue Devils proved to test the might of the hosting New Kent Lady Trojans. The hosts were able to handle battle.
The Lady Trojans compiled a 3-0 shutout in the Apr. 26 contest, notching win number two in a row for the hosts.
For most of the first half, neither team could find a way to put the ball in the back of the net as the physicality kept the ball from crossing midfield for most of the game. That changed when New Kent’s Morgan Schalasny blasted a ball by Hopewell goalkeeper Love Frazier to give the hosts a 1-0 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the opening half. Two minutes later, Michelle Drake added to the Lady Trojans’ total with a score, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The score remained the same until the 28:27 mark, as Lady Trojan Kaitlyn Drake scored what would be the final goal on the night, bestowing a 3-0 lead to the hosts.
New Kent’s record improves to 6-6 on the season.
