New Kent’s Butler, Ellis pick up wins at Bay Rivers District Track and Field Championships

New Kent’s Gabrielle Butler captured the girls’ triple jump title as part of the May 10 Bay Rivers District Championship meet held in New Kent.
Butler leaped a distance of 33’0” even, winning the event. She also earned fifth place finishes in the girls’ 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.73 and in the girls’ 200-meter dash with a time of 27.60.
New Kent’s Lady Trojans scored 40 points at the meat, good enough for ninth place. Warhill’s Lady Lions captured the meet with 155.5 points.
On the boys’ side, Ellis Branch duplicated Butler’s feat by winning the triple jump on the young men’s portion.
Branch emerged as the victor with a distance of 44’0” in the competition. He also earned a bronze medal in the long jump with a mark of 20’2½”.
New Kent racked up 48 points to finish sixth in the contest. Warhill’s Lions coasted to the championship with 168 points.
