Charles City Lady Panthers finish tenth at Region 1A track and field championships

Charles City’s Lady Panthers scored six points, good enough to finish in 10th place at the Group 1A Region A Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet held on their home track on May 24.

Janiya Washington turned in the best performance for Charles City, placing fourth in the girls’ 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.20. Teammate Jaela Smith accounted for the other points for the Lady Panthers, placing fifth in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles with a time of 57.73.

Washington will advance to the Group 1A state championship meet on June 2-3 in Harrisonburg, as she met qualifying standards in the girls’ 100-meter dash, girls’ 200-meter dash, and girls’ 400-meter dash this year.

On the boys’ side, Ashton English accounted for the Panthers lone point in the meet. English placed sixth in the boys’ shot with a personal best of 40’2” with his heave.

Northampton girls and Lancaster boys’ teams won the regional championships, respectively.
