Lamprecht, Wright emerge as Region 3A track and field champions

Isaac Lamprecht earned gold in the boys’ 3200-meter run while teammate Ryan Wright captured the pole vault title as New Kent finished fifth in the Group 3A Region A Championships held May 23-24 at Lakeland High School.

Lamprecht ran a time of 9:58.93 in the 3200-meter run, edging Lafayette’s A.J. Koval by a second to capture the event. Wright’s clearance of 13’0” was the top performance in the pole vault as he prevented Tabb’s Tigers from capturing the top three spots.

New Kent compiled 64.33 points to earn the top five finish. Bay Rivers District foe Tabb won the meet with 155.33 points.

On the girls’ side, New Kent Lady Trojans finished sixth with 51 points.

New Kent garnered five third place finishes as their top highlights. Bronze medals were earned by Gabrielle Butler in the 400-meter dash (1:03.57), Madison Johnson in the 800-meter run (2:29.26), Ara Buchman in the triple jump (34’9”), Autumn Wallace in the pole vault (8’6”), and the 4×800 meter relay team of Johnson, Butler, Alahna Gadsen, and Campbell Proffitt (11:04.25).

Bay Rivers District rival Tabb won the regional championship with 129 points.
