New Kent blitzes Colonial Heights to return to win column in field hockey

An early flourish of scores in the first half along with a shutout performance by goalkeeper Brianna Otey propelled New Kent’s Lady Trojans to a 6-0 victory over the visiting Colonial Heights Lady Colonials in Friday night field hockey action.

The hosts took advantage by earning 13 penalty corners in the first half. New Kent’s first score would come at the 4:46 mark in the first quarter from Reagan Smith who controlled a ball at eye level, got it back on the ground and knocked it in for the score.

New Kent capitalized on one penalty corner in the first half, as Olivia Allen punched one in at the 10:10 mark, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead that stood until the intermission break. After the exchange, New Kent received scores from Smith, Meghan Fly, Lily Ohschlager, and Cambell Coyle to increase their lead to six, resulting in a mercy rule victory for the Lady Trojans.

New Kent’s record improves to 5-6 on the season.
