New Kent High School wrestling finishes as Group 3A State runners-up for second consecutive year
For the second consecutive year, New Kent High School’s Wrestling team finished as the Group 3A State runner-up following two-day competition on Feb. 16-17.
New Kent scored 153 points to finish second at the state competition. Staunton River repeated as team state champions, accumulating 230 points in the runaway win.
The Trojans were able to produce one state champion this year. Tristan Carter won a sudden victory over Wilson Memorial’s Cooper Brandt to capture the 113-pound division.
Four Trojans were able to bring home bronze medals from the 3A state competition. Third place finishers were Alex Cuic (106-pound division), Kyle Gibson (120-pound division), Noah Cuic (138-pound division), and Quinn Morrison (150-pound division). Other place finishers for New Kent were Adam Ayala (fifth place, 132-pound division) and Noah Bentley (fifth place, 144-pound division).
Other scorers for New Kent were Peyton McNamee (126-pound division), Jason Bennett (157-pound division), Chase Wiles (175-pound division), Cory Siebert (215-pound division), and Pedro Williamson (285-pound division). Jared Edeza participated in the 165-pound division for the Trojans.
