New Kent girls, boys place eighth at Group 3A Region A indoor track championships

New Kent High School’s girls’ and boys’ indoor track and field teams finished eighth at the Group 3A Region A championship meet held Feb. 15-16 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.

Madison Johnson ran away from the competition in the girls’ 1600-meter run, clocking a time of 5:35.94 to win the event.

Other scorers for the Lady Trojans were Gabrielle Butler (fourth- triple Jump 32’1”, third- 300-meter dash 42.82), Chelsey Thompson (sixth- 55-meter hurdles 9.76), and the 4×400 relay team of Butler, Johnson, Thompson, and Andrea Dallaire (third- 4:28.54).

New Kent’s girls’ team accumulated 30 points at the meet. Bay Rivers District rival Tabb won the meet with 100 points.

In the boys’ competition, Ryan Wright emerged as the top pole vaulter in the event, clearing the bar at 13’6”. Will Ashley also garnered gold for the Trojans, winning the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:18.09.

Other scorers for New Kent include Liam Holloway (fifth- Pole Vault 10’0”), the 4×800 relay team of Will Ashley, Tobey Davis, Brandon Crooms, and Isaac Lamprecht (fifth- 8:46.99), the 4×200 relay team of Christian Elam, Brody Cash, Sir Mimms, Dayton Meekins (seventh- 1:39.25), and the 4×400 relay team of Elam, Darren Jenkins, Noah Nelson, and Drezdyn Davis (seventh- 3:51.69).

New Kent’s boys’ squad earned 32 points to finish eighth in the competition. Bay Rivers District rival Grafton won the meet with 101 points.
