New Kent shuts out Tabb in softball action

New Kent’s Lady Trojans softball team’s offense pushed four runs across the board while their defense held the visiting Tabb Lady Tigers without a run as they coasted to a 4-0 victory Friday afternoon.

In the opening inning, Lady Trojan Mariah Leonard crossed home plate on a Tabb error. In the bottom of the third inning, a two-RBI single by Hannah Perkins increased the home team’s lead to 3-0. New Kent’s final run came on a sacrifice fly by Kenley Rowe, who drove Sydney Eubank home.

Meanwhile, Amber Greiner commanded the mound for the Lady Trojans, pitching the complete game shutout and lifting the hosts to a win.

After the contest, New Kent Lady Trojans Head Coach Maria Bates talked about a new system and their strength on the mound this year.

“We have a lot of depth at pitcher this season and it’s a huge part of the game,” she said. “As one graduates, you have a plethora of others ready to take that spot.”

New Kent improves to 2-0 on the season.
