Lady Trojans place sixth in track and field home opener

New Kent’s Chelsey Thompson easily clears a hurdle en route to winning her heat of the girls’ 300-meter hurdles. Thompson placed third overall in the event.

New Kent’s Ara Buchman’s first place finish in the girls’ long jump was the highlight as the Lady Trojans placed sixth at their home opening track meet Tuesday afternoon.

Buchman leaped a distance of 15’3”, winning the event by nearly a foot over the next closest competitor.

The Lady Trojans accumulated 60 points to finish sixth at the meet. Warhill won the competition with 114.5 points, followed by Tabb (103.5), and Grafton (96.83).

On the boys’ side, the Trojans put together 27.5 points, good enough for an eighth-place team finish.

The top event performer for the Trojans was Will Ashley in the boys’ 1600-meter run. Ashley clocked a time of 4:45.41, placing second in the competition.

Warhill won the boys’ competition with 121.5 points. Lafayette placed second with 99 points, while Grafton finished in third with 98 points.
