The struggles on the diamond continue for New Kent’s baseball team.

The Trojans found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard, falling 4-1 to the previously winless Warhill Lions in an Apr. 10 Bay Rivers District contest.

New Kent fell behind early in the contest, as Warhill loaded the bases in the top of the first inning. Trojan hurler Jonah Sorrell walked in the next batter, allowing Warhill’s Lloyd Findley to cross home plate for the visitors. Two batters later, Nicky Ruta’s RBI double to the gap drove home three runs, giving the visitors a 4-0 lead.

After Sorrell allowed that hit, a pitching change saw Brody Cash take the mound. And while Cash only allowed one hit for the remainder of the game, the offense sputtered for the Trojans.

New Kent’s only offensive threat came in the bottom of the third inning. A Thomas Wilson chopper to third base resulted in a sacrifice, allowing Cash to cross home plate. But from there, the Lions held the hosts in check to walk out with their first win of the season.

The Trojans, who have dropped three of their last four contests, now holds a record of 5-3 on the season.
