Sometimes it takes the harsh truth to get back on track. For New Kent’s Trojans, a message from Head Coach Trevor Ronan seemed to light a fire into their recent win streak. Friday afternoon’s victory over the visiting Bruton Panthers only added kindling to the flame.

New Kent posted a 6-0 victory over Bruton, running their consecutive win streak to five in a row.

Trojans’ starting pitcher Carson Seely kept Bruton’s batters in check in the top of the first inning thanks to forcing routine plays and striking out Panther batter Ty Yates. In the bottom of the frame, A Tyler Warren sacrifice fly drove Grayson Hobson home to provide the hosts a 1-0 lead, an advantage they wouldn’t relinquish for the rest of the contest.

In the bottom of the second inning, Michael Hetzel’s blast into the outfield gap resulted in two runs crossing home plate. That lead doubled in the bottom of the fifth, as Hetzel’s connection cleared the outfield fence, driving home three runs and upping New Kent’s lead to 6-0. That scoreboard would remain unchanged as the Trojans closed out the contest and kept Bruton scoreless.

After the game, Ronan spoke about his team’s streak after the rough spell prior to the Spring Break.

“They have bounced back, and they are coming together,” the head coach commented. “We are seeing that the team is coming together, and they are doing a good job during this stretch.”

New Kent improves to 11-3 on the season.
