Lady Trojans take third in annual New Kent ‘Shoot the Gun and Run’ Invitational
New Kent’s Lady Trojans strung together an 88-point performance to finish in third at their home “Shoot the Gun and Run Invitational” held Saturday.
New Kent’s Gabrielle Butler emerged as the solo event winner for the Lady Trojans, capturing the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.57. Butler was joined by teammates Madison Clements, Madison Johnson, and Ryan Griffith in the girls’ 4×400 meter relay, winning the gold with a time of 4:19.15.
Other medal performances by the Lady Trojans second place finishes by Johnson in the 800-meter run (2:21.73), and bronze medal performances by Butler in the 200-meter dash (27.69), Aubrey Loucks in the 3200-meter run (13:58.24), Griffith in the high jump (4’10”) and long jump (15’1½”), and the 4×100 meter relay team of Griffith, Clements, Chelsey Thompson, and Austynn Body (52.67).
Charles City’s Lady Panthers were also able to produce a medalist at the meet. Derequa Johnson won the girls’ 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.66 and finished as runner-up in the girls 300-meter hurdles by clocking 49.88.
New Kent finished behind event winner Cosby, who amassed 107 points, and Manchester, who orchestrated a 101-point performance. Charles City’s Lady Panthers scored 23.5 points, good enough for an eighth-place finish at the meet.
On the boys’ side, New Kent accumulated 60 points, finishing fourth at their home meet.
The Trojans had two athletes produce gold medal performances at the meet. Ryan Wright easily captured the pole vault with a clearance of 15’0”, while teammate Tristen Jenkins heave of 129’5” in the boys’ discus earned him a first-place finish. Other medal winning performances were produced by Landon Evans in the boys’ pole vault (2nd- 10’6”), Liam Holloway in the boys’ pole vault (2nd- 10’6”), and the 4×800 meter relay team of Vincent Bohardt, Davis Chandler, Tobey Davis, and Carter Henning (2nd- 9:04.47).
Fork Union took home the boys’ title, scoring 102 points for the top prize. Clover Hill finished as runners-up with 85 points, while Manchester placed third with 66. Charles City’s boys’ team did not score at the meet.
