Improvement and patience.

Those were monikers to describe New Kent’s Lady Trojans 2025 soccer team as they continue their phenomenal start.

The Lady Trojans improved to 3-0-1 after defeating York in an Apr. 16 Bay Rivers District match-up.

After battling back-and-forth for a majority of the first half, New Kent found the back of the net as forward Olivia Allen outraced her defender to score with 13:56 to go in the first half. With two minutes remaining until the intermission break, Allen scored again, this time with a 15-yard kick from the left-hand side over the outstretch hands of the York goalie.

Meanwhile on the defensive end, New Kent continued to keep the net clear, thanks to goalie’s Emily Ward wall of defense. And when she wasn’t deflecting shots, it was New Kent’s defense forcing York out of the attacking territory. New Kent sealed the victory with Gretchen Smith’s free kick with 7:48 remaining until the end of the contest.

New Kent Lady Trojans’ Head Coach Stella Follett spoke about her team’s victory.

“This is one of the best groups we have had,” she commented. “We have set a foundation to where we must want it more than the other team.

“We just have to want it more than them 110-percent of the time,” Follett added. “We must double the intensity, and I have a group that just wants it more.”
