New Kent Lady Trojans finish 25th at Group 3A state track and field meet behind Johnson, Thompson

New Kent’s Lady Trojans finished 25th at the Group 3A state track and field competition held June 6-7 at Liberty University in Lynchburg.

The Lady Trojans received a pair of sixth place finishes at the meet. Madison Johnson ran a time of 2:21.94 in the girls’ 800-meter run, while teammate Chelsey Thompson coasted to a time of 47.20 in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles. The other point scored by New Kent came courtesy of Gabrielle Butler, who ran a time of 1:00.48 in the 400-meter dash to finish eighth.

New Kent’s seven points placed them 25th at the meet. Heritage High School of Lynchburg won the competition with 99 points.

On the boys’ side, New Kent received their only points from the pole vault event.

Ryan Wright’s clearance of 14’0” was good enough to place him sixth in the competition.

The Trojans scored three points, placing them 33rd in the competition. Fauquier won the boys’ state championship with 63 points.
