New Kent’s Lady Trojans got a test on Sept. 18 against the visiting Warhill Lady Lions. But in the end, the home team’s volleyball record remained unblemished.
New Kent defeated Warhill 17-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-17 in the Bay Rivers District contest.
In the first set, both teams started even before Warhill initiated a 12-5 run thanks to Tristen Keene dominating the net with kills. From that point forward, Warhill captured the set, threatening New Kent’s undefeated record.
In the second frame, the Lady Trojans jumped up 5-1 thanks to a sequence of aces by Carly Sachs. But the Lady Lions fought back, rallying within a mere point (7-6). But New Kent’s overwhelming talent began to fluster the visitors, as a 7-0 run provided enough distance for the hosts to tie the match up at one game apiece.
In sets three and four, New Kent began dominating on both sides of the ball. Sachs combined for 12 kills in those frames, while Reagan Hailey-Robinson controlled the tone at the net with a pair of blocks. The hosts corrected their earlier errors and captured the final two sets.
New Kent record improves to 8-0 on the season.
