Atlee edges New Kent by less than a point in gymnastics showdown

The visiting Lady Raiders from Atlee was able to scrape by with a victory over the New Kent Lady Trojans in the Jan. 8 gymnastics dual.
Atlee emerged with an overall team score of 133.9, barely beating out New Kent’s 133.3.
New Kent’s Ryan Griffith was the overall best performing, accumulating a total of 36.9 points. Teammate Chloe Coyle placed third overall with a score of 34.25.
In individual events, Coyle placed second in the balance beam with a score of 9.15. Griffin placed third after scoring 9.05. Emma Martin placed fifth in the event with 8.4.
The uneven bars saw Griffith capture first with a score of 8.7, with Coyle earning silver with a 7.6. Griffith topped the platform in the vault with a score of 9.5. Coyle, Austynn Boyd, and Jordyn Holloman all tied for fourth with a score of 8.7. Finally, in the floor routine, Griffith’s 9.65 topped the scoring chart, while Coyle finished in third by registering 8.8 on the scoreboard.
