New Kent Trojans win regional track and field meet, Lady Trojans place third

New Kent High School is going to need to make space in their regional trophy case once again.

New Kent’s Boys Indoor Track and Field team scored 132 points to capture the Region 3A championship, narrowly beating out Bay Rivers District Rival Tabb during the two-day meet held Feb. 10-11 at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.

New Kent swept the pole vault competition, with Liam Holloway winning with a height of 12’0”. Mason Schalasny placed second at 11’6”, and Landon Evans finished third with a height of 11’6”. Sean Moore was the other gold place winner for the Trojans, winning the shot put with a heave of 38’11”.

New Kent defeated Tabb, who finished in second with 129 points. I.C. Norcom scored 77 points to finish third.

On the girls’ side, New Kent accumulated 95.5 points, earning a third-place finish in the regional competition.

Ryan Griffith emerged as the only event winner for the Lady Trojans. She captured the triple jump crown with a leap of 34’7”.

Bay Rivers District Rival Tabb grabbed the championship trophy in the girls’ division by scoring 159 points. I.C. Norcom placed second with a score of 106.5.
