New Kent High School wrestling wins ninth consecutive regional championship

New Kent High School’s wrestling team won nine weight classes and finished as runners-up in three others as they dominated the Region 3A championships Saturday afternoon, marking the program’s ninth consecutive regional championship.
Weight class winners for New Kent were Trent Carter defeating Davon Baker of Booker T. Washington via pinfall (106 pounds), Carter Roy defeating Lakeland’s Jamar Barker via pinfall (113 pounds), Tristan Carter defeating Tabb’s Yanni Hall-Shirley via pinfall (120 pounds), Alex Cuic def. Lake Taylor’s Khamad Butts via pinfall (126 pounds), Adam Ayala over Tabb’s Alijah Franklin via decision (150 pounds), Quinn Morrison defeating Tabb’s Dominic Koehne via majority decision (157 pounds), Chase Wiles defeating Hopewell’s Xavier Knight via pinfall (175 pounds), and Luke Adamson over Lake Taylor’s Travis Willis via decision (215 pounds),
Runners-up were Aiden Slimick in the 138-pound division (loss via pinfall to Nasir Goode of Petersburg), Blake Gregory in the 144-pound division (loss via pinfall to Jayden Wright of Tabb), and Bryan Pascale in the 285-pound division (loss via pinfall to I.C. Norcom’s Joshua Lewis).
Other place finishers for the Trojans were Connor Robinson (fourth, 132 pounds), Liam O’Connell (fourth, 165 pounds), and Bennett Adamson (fifth, 190 pounds).
New Kent amassed 279.5 points, easily besting runner-up Tabb’s 131.5 for the title. Petersburg placed third with 115 points.
The Trojans will participate in the Class 3A State Championships on Feb. 20-21 in Salem.
