New Kent High School wrestling finishes as Class 3A state runners-up

New Kent High School’s Wrestling Team is trending back in the right direction after finishing as the Class 3A state runner-up following a two-day competition in Salem.

The Trojans used one second place finish and three third place finishes to muster 143.5 points, good enough to place them on the podium with silver medals.

Alex Cuic was the top performer for the Trojans in state competition, finishing as runner-up in the 126-pound weight class, falling shore to Staunton River’s Graydon Martin via pinfall.

Carter Roy earned bronze in the 113-pound weight class with a pin over Lane Brunk of William Byrd in 4:41. Tristan Carter snagged third place in the 120-pound division with a pin over Rocktown’s Miles Neil in 4:48. Chase Wiles also captured a bronze medal, defeating Cru Scott from Kettle Run High School by decision.

Luke Adamson finished fourth for the Trojans in the 215-pound weight class, falling via pinfall to Elijah Erskine from Heritage High School in Lynchburg. Quinn Morrison garnered a fifth-place finish in the 157-pound weight class, winning via decision over Dovonan Pierce of Heritage High School in Lynchburg. Adam Ayala placed sixth in the 150-pound division.

Skyline High School scored 211.5 points to run away with the state championship. Staunton River finished in third with 125 points.
