Trojans blank Poquoson in boys’ soccer to kickoff 2026 season

With a young team at the helm and a new head coach, New Kent’s boys’ soccer team started off the new season in dominating fashion.
The Trojans blanked Bay Rivers District Rival Poquoson 4-0 in the Mar. 18 season opener.
New Kent’s offense started early with a goal at the 32:56 mark from Grayson Yates after an assist from Diego Jimenez. Ten minutes later, freshman Lucas Negrete converted a score to up the advantage.
The Trojans’ aggressive defense spurned the next offensive score, as Van Walker found the back of the net against the Islanders’ goalie with 15:03 remaining until the halftime break, increase New Kent’s lead to 3-0, which would remain that way until the intermission.
The Trojans’ defense continued to keep Poquoson out of scoring territory. Meanwhile, Jimenez added a score of his own to close out the contest.
After the game, first year New Kent Head Coach Scott Renick spoke about the team’s victory.
“Every worked as a team tonight,” he said. “We have a new set, we kept the consistency going by our three captains stepping up, and the other players who are working hard to continue to get better.
“Getting our first district win on a new field is a great thing,” Renick concluded.
