Lady Trojans win Shoot the Gun and Run Invitational in christening of new track

New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ christened their brand-new track in style by winning the Shoot and Gun Invitational on Saturday.

The Lady Trojans amassed 124 points to win the 11-team meet which served as the team’s season opener. Midlothian placed second with 113 points, while Prince George finished third with 90 points.

Faith Rollins won the girls’ pole vault with a clearance of 6’0”, with teammate Olivia Burno placing second. Madison Clements won the girls’ long jump with a distance of 16’0½”. The 4×100 relay team of Aubrey Ross, Chawney Cheeseman, Madison Clements, and Brooklyn Wiles sped their way to gold with a time of 51.40.

On the boys’ side, New Kent compiled 100 points, good enough for a third-place finish in the competition.

New Kent swept the podium in the boys’ pole vault competition with Liam Holloway winning with a clearance of 12’0”, Mason Schalasny finishing second with a height of 12’0”, and Landon Evans placing third by clearing 9’0”. Carlos Young clocked the top time in the boys’ 110-hurdles with a time of 16.91. Rashad Leeper captured gold in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.73.

Prince George won the boys’ portion with 148 points, while Midlothian finished as runner-up with 110 points.
