After a scoreless first half in a Mar. 26 non-district contest against the Lakeland Cavaliers, New Kent searched for some offense to help return to the win column. Apparently, James Yates heeded the call for help.
Yates notched four second half goals at New Kent rolled to a 6-0 victory over the Cavaliers in the boys’ soccer match.
Will Dickerson scored the first goal for the hosts, notching it at the 29:01 mark of the second half. After another 10 minutes of competitive action, Yates took the scoring duties onto his own two feet. His first goal found the back of the net at the 19:26 mark. From there, goals at 15:59 and 13:27 helped him notch a hat trick. Score number four came less than 30 seconds later at the 12:58 mark.
New Kent’s scoring did not end there, as William Cheeley added a point of his own with 3:47 remaining on the clock. From there, time expired on the clock as the Trojans captured another victory.
New Kent Head Coach Scott Renick spoke about the ball movement which led to the scores.
“The biggest difference was the passing,” he commented. “We kept the ball low, as in the first half we kept it high. So that was the biggest difference.”
New Kent improves to 3-1 on the season.
