For years, Charles City’s Lady Panthers’ softball team remained in a dormant state, searching for the shift into a competitive state. With a team full of former JV players that only dropped four contests last year all returning, the Lady Panthers have started the season in dominant fashion.

Behind 14 strikeouts and a one-hitter from Logan Jones, Charles City smashed the visiting John Marshall Lady Justices 29-0 in the non-district affair.

In the bottom of the first, Charles City took the lead for good as Eryn Brown’s RBI double provided the first score. Jones’ two-run double increased the score, with a passed ball leading to run number four for the home team. Charles City added three more runs as they led 7-0 after the opening frame.

In the bottom of the second, Brown and Jones both converted inside-the-ark home runs. Jewel Otey’s RBI triple provided the home team a dozen runs. RBI hits from Niajah Jones and Aalaya King continued to put pressure on the visitors.

Charles City added 17 more runs in the next three innings as the mercy rule kicked in by the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Lady Panthers have outscored opponents 73-4 in their first four games as they are off to a 3-0 start.
