New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ soccer team continues to improve, with Friday night’s victory placing another checkmark in the win column.
Behind four goals from Gretchen Smith, New Kent defeated the Dinwiddie Lady Generals 8-0 in the non-district contest, extending their win streak to three games.
Smith wasted little time getting to work on the offensive end for the hosts. Smith converted three goals within the first 25 minutes of the contest, notching a hat trick early on. Meanwhile, the Lady Trojans’ demeanor of fighting harder and wanting it more was evident from the onset. Smith’s fourth goal came two minutes before the halftime break as New Kent led 4-0 heading into the intermission.
Emerging for the second half, the offensive love began to spread around as Carlotta Kaiser and Brooklyn Fleschman added the next pair of goals. The final two goals came off the foot of Macey Smith, who converted a pair of goals within two minutes, triggering the mercy rule victory for the home team.
After the contest, New Kent Lady Trojans Head Coach Stella Follett spoke about her team’s victory.
“The team is talking more on the field because they see the teamwork and have a similar goal,” she said. “Their voice matters, and they see the value of working together.
“I challenged them not to let one person in blue get beat to the ball today,” she added. “That was all it took. They knew their job and their mission.”
The Lady Trojans improve to 4-2 on the season.
