New Kent High School’s baseball team continued their winning ways.

The Trojans conquered Bay Rivers District Rival Poquoson 5-1 thanks to strong pitching and defense.

New Kent started the scoring as Dylan Bowman’s sacrifice fly provided the hosts a 1-0 lead. Poquoson tied the game up at one apiece, but in the bottom of the fifth inning, Jakub Bowen’s hit a home run after the ball went off the glove of an Islander’s defender and over the outfield wall to return the lead (2-1) to New Kent.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Layne Boyette hit a double and then stole third base. A passed ball allowed Boyette to cross home plate. Brody Cash’s RBI single along with another hit from Bowen added two more runs to increase the Trojans lead to four (5-1).

Meanwhile, Jonah Sorrell tossed six strong innings for the Trojans, striking out five in the win.

New Kent improves to 12-1 on the season.
