For six innings, New Kent’s Lady Trojans looked to keep their long, homestanding win streak intact as they led the Poquoson Lady Islanders 3-1. But in the top of the seventh inning, the visitors’ bats came alive.

Six runs crossed home plate in the top of the frame and New Kent failed to register a run in the bottom of the seventh as the Poquoson Lady Islanders walked out with a 7-3 win over the Lady Trojans, ending their nearly two-year home winning streak.

New Kent would strike first on the scoreboard as Kenley Rowe’s double provided the hosts a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Riley Waldron’s double along with Addison Moore’s sacrifice fly pushed the Lady Trojans’ advantage to 3-0.

Moving into the top of the sixth inning, New Kent held a 3-1 lead when things began falling apart for the hosts. With runners on first and third for the Lady Islanders, Sierra Morse hit a ball into the infield that was juggled and misplayed by the Lady Trojans’ defense. Morse advanced to second and drove home two runs, tying the game at three apiece.

Poquoson loaded the bases as Brooklyn Mason stepped to the plate. A line drive by Mason allowed two runners to cross home plate to give the visitors their first lead of the night. Moments later, Tinley Goodson’s two-run double contributed to the last scores of the contest. New Kent failed to capitalize in the bottom of the frame, falling to the Lady Islanders for the second time this year.

New Kent’s record drops to 10-3 on the season.
