Behind a first half hat trick, New Kent’s boys’ soccer team returned to the win column Monday night.

New Kent’s Diego Jimenez notched three goals in the first half, while teammates Mason Phaup and Grayson Yates each added a pair of their own as the Trojans coasted to a 10-2 non-district victory over the visiting Middlesex Chargers.

Less than seven minutes into the contest, Phaup put the hosts on the scoreboard for an early advantage. Three minutes later, Jimenez notched his first goal of the night, with his second following at the 18:33 mark as the Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

Middlesex was able to find the back of the net as Randy Velazquez’s blast cut New Kent’s lead down to two (3-1). But less than a minute after Velazquez’s goal, Jimenez scored once again to help the Trojans carry a 4-1 lead into the halftime break.

When both teams emerged from the intermission, New Kent’s offense ramped up as Phaup added his second goal of the night and Yates converted two of his own. Owen Agee, Carter Heath, and Brady Renick were all able to punch the ball in the back of the net as the Trojans went onto the victory that was stopped via slaughter rule.

New Kent’s record improves to 7-4-1 on the year.
