Charles City’s Lady Panthers’ softball team is learning a lesson that while they are having a good season so far, getting through the Tidewater District is still a daunting task.
Charles City fell 15-1 to the visiting Middlesex Lady Chargers in Tuesday afternoon action.
Middlesex punched onto the scoreboard in the first, and began to add more in the top of the second. Carly Jessie’s pop-up fly was misplayed by the Lady Panthers, allowing her to reach base. Kyla Blazek’s single drove home Jessie to increase Middlesex’s lead to 2-0.
After Charles City’s Logan Jones struck out Aniyah Billups, a pair of walks positioned the host team facing a bases loaded situation. A passed ball allowed for run number three to cross home plate for Middlesex, which was subsequently followed up by Lailah Baylor’s two-run base hit to provide the visitors a 5-0 advantage.
Throughout the remainder of the contest, Middlesex added 10 more runs and took advantage of fielding mistakes by Charles City. The Lady Panthers were able to punch in a run late but could not make up the deficit.
Charles City falls to 10-5 on the season.
