New Kent girls, boys’ teams finish fifth in Bay Rivers District championships

New Kent’s girls and boys’ track and field team accumulated fifth-place finishes at Wednesday’s Bay Rivers District Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

On the girls’ side, Ryan Griffith captured gold in the triple jump competition with a leap of 35’0”. New Kent earned a pair of silver medals in two relay events. The quartet of Chawney Cheeseman, Brooklyn Wiles, Madison Clements, and Griffith ran a time of 50.58 in the 4×100 meter relay to finish second, just out of reach of Tabb. In the 4×800 relay, Aubrey Loucks, Olivia Hudson, Andrea Dallaire, and Audrey Hudson ran a time of 10:39.89, edging out Warhill for second and finishing behind Tabb.

The Lady Trojans accumulated 60 points in the competition. Grafton won the girls’ competition with 128 points, with Warhill placing second with 124.5 and Jamestown placing third with 103.

On the boys’ side, New Kent dominated the pole vault event once again to earn a majority of their points.

Mason Schalasny won the event with a clearance of 12’6”, with teammate Liam Holloway placing second at 12’0”. Landon Evans also scored points by placing fourth with a height of 10’0”.

New Kent’s boys’ team accumulated 62 points to finish in fifth. Jamestown captured the district championship with 135.5 points, with Smithfield placing second with 118 points and Warhill finishing third with 100.5.
