Sometimes things stay the same and sometimes things change. For New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ softball team, while they had changes to their roster, their success has earned them another state playoff appearance.
Behind the pitching of Sierra Carter and a stellar offense, New Kent’s Lady Trojans blanked the visiting Colonial Heights Lady Colonials 13-0 in a June 2 matchup to advance to the Region 3A finals and earn a berth to the Class 3A state tournament.
New Kent scored first after a bases loaded walk. Riley Waldron’s sacrifice drove in run number two for the hosts.
Carter took to the plate next, connecting with a triple that drove home two more runs. A swipe of home plate by pinch runner Reagan McKeever gave the hosts a 5-0 lead by the end of the first inning.
Meanwhile, Carter’s pitching on the mound resulted in three strikeouts and surrendering four hits. The Lady Trojans added eight additional runs as the game ended via mercy rule.
