New Kent wins five set volleyball thriller over Tabb

The new era of New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ volleyball continues to keep up the precedence of being a strong program. Such was the case on Sept. 3.

The Lady Trojans survived a tough battle against the visiting Tabb Lady Tigers, winning a five-set thriller 25-12, 24-26, 25-16, 22-25, 15-4 to remain undefeated on the season.

New Kent’s play consisted of ups and downs for the contest. After dominating the first set, Tabb was able to survive and win the tiebreakers in set two. New Kent rebounded in set three with another dominant performance, but Tabb fought back winning set four, pushing the match into a fifth and final set and a race to 15 points.

New Kent took control in the fifth set, with kills from Hannah Brown and Kennedy Chambers to jump out to a 3-0 lead. After Tabb scored the next two points, New Kent rolled into several scores, forcing miscues from the Tigers. The aggressive nature of the Lady Trojans resulted in a 12-2 run for the home team to close out the game.

New Kent (4-0) saw Carly Sachs lead the team with 22 kills, Brooklyn Wiles with 29 digs, and Brielle Perry had four aces.
