Trojan turnovers costly as Poquoson shuts out New Kent 13-0

Costly mistakes by New Kent’s offense resulted in the Poquoson Islanders walking out with a win.

Poquoson capitalized on three fumbles by the hosting Trojans en route to a 13-0 victory during the Sept. 3 Bay Rivers District football contest.

Just moments into the game, Poquoson took advantage of a Trojans’ miscue. New Kent’s Braylon Simpson was stripped of the ball by Poquoson’s Heath Reynolds. Reynolds would take the ball back into the end zone 30 yards for a score and a 6-0 Islander lead less than a minute into the game.

On offense, Reynolds would have an impact as well. His 51-yard scamper down the line set up teammates Amauri Lymon’s one yard touchdown run to give the visiting Islanders a 13-0 advantage, taking that lead into the halftime break.

Meanwhile, New Kent’s offense did not materialize during the contest. Despite having ample opportunities, including starting a drive at Poquoson’s 20-yard line after a Blake Gregory kick return, New Kent once again turned the ball over deep in Islander territory with five minutes left in the game. The Trojans once again regained possession after recovering a fumble, but New Kent’s offense was unable to move the ball any further as time expired.

New Kent falls to 1-1 on the season.
