New Kent’s Lady Trojans continue to approach the postseason with a singular focus: Handle each game one at a time.
That mantra was evident as New Kent defeated the visiting Warhill Lady Lions in straight sets 25-19, 25-12, 25-18 in the Oct. 22 Bay Rivers District match.
In the first set, New Kent found themselves down by three points early on. But with the coaching staff having confidence in the team, the Lady Trojans rallied to tie the game at seven apiece as Kennedy Chambers spike and score locked the team in. Hannah Brown’s kill pushed New Kent’s advantage to two before Warhill scored four straight to regain the lead.
The teams continued to battle back and forth in the first stanza. With the score tied at 17 apiece, New Kent locked in, orchestrating an 8-2 run to close out the frame and capture the first set.
In the second set, New Kent leaned on Carly Sachs, who commanded the net with several kills to disrupt Warhill’s defense and power the hosts to an easy win. In the third frame, the Lady Trojans controlled the pace of the contest, scoring when necessary and deterring any runs Warhill had in the match.
The Lady Trojans improve to 16-2 on the season.
