New Kent’s Raven Harris won the indoor triple jump competition at Christopher Newport University’s Winter Frolic Saturday afternoon. Harris leaped 35’3½” to win the event. She defeated 27 other competitors ranging from all different group levels to earn the top spot.

New Kent’s basketball season has been either hot or cold for the 2018-19 season. On Friday night, the Trojans’ performance dipped below freezing. A letdown coupled with 22 turnovers, New Kent fell to the visiting Lafayette Rams 59-47 on a night that celebrated the first inductees of New Kent High School’s Hall of fame. New Kent’s wrestling team remains undefeated of the year by defeating two Bay Rivers District opponents on Dec. 13. The Trojans cruised to a 61-12 victory over Warhill and dominated Tabb by a score of 59-18. New Kent is now 7-0 in team matches on the year.
The Virginia Racing Commission (VRC) has granted a license to the Colonial Downs Group to conduct live racing once again in the Commonwealth. “This is an exciting step for everyone impassioned by the rebirth of live racing in Virginia and for our team delivering our promise to revitalize horse racing in the Commonwealth,” said Colonial Downs Group Senior Vice-President John Marshall in a press release. New Kent High School’s wrestling team emerged as winners of the Yellow Jacket Invitational held this past weekend at Northampton High School. Daniel Colgin, Brayden Hohman, Gannon Jones, Brandon Bauman, and Jamar Christian all emerged as winners of their respective weight classes. Tyler Williams and Brendan Day finished as runners-up at the event, while Troy Eberhard, Leighton Fessman, and Juan Jones earned bronze.
