Wiping out most of a 12-point fourth quarter deficit, New Kent’s Lady Trojans appeared on the verge of posting their first basketball win of the season. Shooting woes continue for Lady Panthers, fall 37-18 to Middlesex

Charles City’s Lady Panthers held the visiting Middlesex Lady Chargers to a mere 37 points, more than 25 points below their season average. Unfortunately for the hosts, the struggles on the offensive end continued in the Jan. 8 contest. Only three baskets found the bottom of the net for the Lady Panthers in the first half and only seven throughout the entire game as Middlesex remained on top of the Tidewater District with a 37-18 victory. Intense defensive pressure on the part of Lafayette’s Rams paid dividends early on, much to the chagrin of New Kent’s host Lady Trojans. The Rams overwhelmed their hosts with a zone press that led to a 17-0 lead with the game barely four minutes old. For some unknown reasoning to Charles City Lady Panthers head coach VaShaun Otey, his team boasted an undefeated record on the road but remained winless in the confines of their home gym. But behind a triple-double from senior center Kiandra Randall, a double-double from freshman Santaesha Hickman, the hosts survived all comeback attempts from visiting George Wythe’s Lady Bulldogs.
