Charles City Lady Panthers win 4×100 relay, finish fourth in regional competition

Charles City’s Lady Panthers 4×100 Meter relay team won gold as they finished fourth at the Group 1A Region A Track and Field Championships held May 22 at Charles City High School. The quartet of Jaida Braxton, Taniyah Williams, Jaela Smith, and Derequa Johnson ran a time of 51.77 to win the event. The Lady Panthers put together a 62-point performance at the regional competition, which is their best finish since 2021. Overall, Charles City garnered eight state qualifiers who will participate in the Group 1A State Championships May 31-June 1 at James Madison University. Middlesex girls’ won 126 points…

A battle of two teams who are favored to be state contenders in their respective classes took to the field in New Kent Monday afternoon. And in the end, it was the hosting Lady Trojans who got a win over the King William Lady Cavaliers. Behind a key hit from University of Virginia commit Hannah Tober in the bottom of the third, New Kent squeezed by King William 2-1 in the non-district contest. Pair of fifth inning scores lifts New Kent to Senior Day victory over Lafayette

New Kent’s Trojans did just enough at the plate as they defeated the visiting Lafayette Rams 2-0 in the May 15 contest. The game remained scoreless as New Kent relied on the senior rotation of Hunter Jesse, Thomas Wilson, and Carson Seely on the mound. It wouldn’t be until the bottom of the fifth when Michael Hetzel doubled to get on base. Lady Trojans chalk up another win after shutting out Lafayette

After capturing the Bay Rivers District regular season championship, New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ softball team showed no letdown against the visiting Lafayette Lady Rams. New Kent blanked Lafayette 16-0 in the May 15 contest, continuing the team’s win streak as they surge into postseason play. After retiring the visitors in the top of the first, New Kent’s offense gained control of the contest quickly. Hannah Tober’s two-RBI single was followed by Kendall White’s two RBIs. Charles City Lady Panthers finish as runners-up in Tidewater District Championship meet

Charles City’s Lady Panthers accumulated 116 points, finishing at the Tidewater District Outdoor Track & Field runners-up at the May 16 meet held on their home track. Derequa Johnson emerged as a double-event winner at the competition. Johnson captured the pole vault title with a clearance of 7’0” and also won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.93. Teammate Jaida Braxton emerged as the other event winner for the Lady Panthers, winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.86. New Kent High School’s eleventh win in a row came with a prize: a Bay Rivers District championship trophy. The Trojans held on for a 4-3 victory over the visiting Poquoson Islanders Monday afternoon, clinching the regular season title for the second consecutive year. The hosts started their scoring early, as Lane Boyette’s two-run home run provided an early lead.
