Charles City Lady Panthers finish as runners-up in Tidewater District Championship meet

Charles City’s Lady Panthers accumulated 116 points, finishing at the Tidewater District Outdoor Track & Field runners-up at the May 16 meet held on their home track. Derequa Johnson emerged as a double-event winner at the competition. Johnson captured the pole vault title with a clearance of 7’0” and also won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.93. Teammate Jaida Braxton emerged as the other event winner for the Lady Panthers, winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.86. New Kent High School’s eleventh win in a row came with a prize: a Bay Rivers District championship trophy. The Lady Trojans complied a 7-0 shutout Monday afternoon against the Poquoson Lady Islanders, clinching the regular season title in impressive fashion and avenging an earlier season loss. New Kent’s Lady Trojans track and field team scored 75 points en route to finishing fourth at the Bay Rivers District Championship meet Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Trojans earned four second place finishes as the top performances at the meet.
