New Kent’s Trojans continue to be battled tested every time they take the floor. This time, it was the visiting Lafayette Rams who pushed the home team to the limit during Friday night’s Hall of Fame game. After seeing a double-digit lead evaporate, New Kent held on in overtime to edge Lafayette 75-71 in a battle of top teams in the Bay Rivers District. New Kent Trojans boys’ swim team split at Jan. 10 competition

New Kent’s girls’ and boys’ swim teams participated in a Jan. 10 swim meet against Bay Rivers District opponents. On the boys’ side, New Kent defeated Bruton 60-33 in competition. The team was edged by Tabb 47-45 in the other dual competition. On the girls’ side, the Lady Trojans were bested by Tabb 77-17 and also by Bruton 64-30.

With healthy squad, New Kent crushes Poquoson on hardwood

New Kent’s Trojans are getting healthy at the right time. And after a Jan. 10 match-up against the visiting Poquoson Islanders, the Trojans are looking to make some noise in the Bay Rivers District and in a dominant way. New Kent exposed Poquoson’s weaknesses en route to a 77-30 blowout victory of the visiting Islanders. Poquoson hung tight for one quarter, trailing by eight (20-12) at the end of the frame. On Jan. 4, New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ toughness was tested, but the ability to finish strongly hurt them in the end. New Kent High School’s Wrestling Team cruised to a victory in a Jan. 3 quad home meet. New Kent opened up defeating Bay Rivers District rival Jamestown 76-6. The Trojans followed that up with a win over the Patrick Henry (Ashland) Patriots 66-7 before closing the night with a 64-6 victory over the Powhatan Indians. After opening the season with two wins, New Kent’s Lady Trojans have struggled to find victory, dropping their last four contests. With the turn of the calendar to 2024, the Lady Trojans hope their season continues to be positive as Tuesday night’s match-up against the invading Smithfield Lady Packers.
